Wesleyan Academy

The Wesleyan Academy: A New Educational Offering for Macon-Bibb

Wesleyan College is excited to announce a new initiative that extends our commitment to educational excellence and community development: the Wesleyan Academy.

Wesleyan Academy is a proposed charter school that, if approved, is anticipated to open on Wesleyan College’s historic campus in Fall 2026. This new K-12 school hopes to offer a transformative educational experience, blending the best of rigorous academics, college preparation, and real-world learning opportunities.

For over 180 years, Wesleyan College has been a leader in academic innovation, empowering women to succeed and become leaders in their fields. Now, we are seeking to expand that legacy to serve students through the Wesleyan Academy and a distinct curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate leadership potential.

Why Wesleyan Academy?

  • College-Ready from Day One: We believe that exposing students to higher education early on helps them navigate the transition to college with confidence and clarity. By offering dual-enrollment and experiential learning opportunities, we hope to allow high school students to take college-level courses and give them a head start on their educational journey.
  • Academic Excellence: Wesleyan Academy is being developed with a focus on fostering creativity, leadership, and academic rigor. From kindergarten through grade 12, students will be expected to engage in a comprehensive, well-rounded education designed to develop both the intellect and character needed for success in college and beyond.
  • Community and Career Focus: At Wesleyan College, we know that education is about more than just academic success—it's also about preparing students for career success. That’s why we are committed to working closely with local businesses and economic development partners to ensure students have access to local job opportunities and career paths, right here in Macon-Bibb County.
  • Inclusive and Welcoming: While Wesleyan College has historically been a women’s institution (and will remain one), it is our intent for Wesleyan Academy to be open to both boys and girls.

Information for Community Members

In the coming months, Wesleyan College will be hosting community townhalls to seek input on the proposed charter from community members. Dates and locations will be published here for Spring 2025.

Information for Parents of Prospective Students

Details on curriculum and how to enroll your child at the Wesleyan Academy are still being developed. More information will be published on this webpage as they become available.

Information for Current Students and Their Families

While we are very early in the process of this school being approved, we want to ensure our current students know our plans.

Our goal is to create dedicated spaces for the primary, middle and high schools on our 200-acre campus. While current students may see charter school students on campus, these groups will not be going to class or socializing together. Our goal is minimizing disruption and ensuring Wesleyan College students get the college experience they are accustomed to.

As well, we expect the proposed charter to bring more opportunities to our students in the form of placements, summer jobs or after-school opportunities. These kinds of initiatives benefit both our current students and the community. We are looking forward to seeing the possibilities.

We will be keeping students and their families up-to-date on this website and through your Wesleyan email.

Information for Alumnae

As alumnae of Wesleyan College, you are the foundation of everything we do. Your unwavering support and dedication to Wesleyan College has allowed us to continue our mission of championing women’s education and helping every student find their unique voice.

The proposed Wesleyan Academy will operate separately from Wesleyan College, with the college acting as landlord to the new school. While it will be open to both boys and girls, Wesleyan College will remain a women’s-only institution. In this way, we can strengthen the College’s mission and its relationship with the local community, while at the same time keeping Wesleyan as the champion of women's education we all love.

We will be hosting a virtual Alumnae Townhall on Monday, January 6 at 5 p.m. EST To register, click here to register.
